Lulu and the shrinking blanket
One day Lulu was playing in the park. After a while she wanted to rest, and she sat down on a bench. Lulu saw a frog jumping around. She imagined it would be funny if she could jump around like the frog. Or maybe if she was small enough to sit on the frog’s back, as it jumped around.
While Lulu was sitting on the bench, her friend Sally came over to say hello. Sally had a backpack, and there was something inside it. Sally opened her backpack and showed Lulu that there was a shrinking blanket inside. Lulu asked Sally what the shrinking blanket did. And Sally said that whatever the shrinking blanket is put on top of, will become smaller.
Lulu asked Sally if the shrinking blanket could also make things bigger. Sally said yes, when the shrinking blanket is turned upside down. Then Lulu had an idea of putting the shrinking blanket upside down on the frog, to make it bigger. Sally helped Lulu find the frog that was jumping around.
They found the frog behind a tree. Then they put the shrinking blanket upside down on top of the frog, and watched the blanket move around until it popped up. And then there was a giant frog under the blanket. The frog was as big as a horse. Lulu asked the frog if she could sit on its back for a ride. And the frog said yes.
Then Lulu got on the frog’s back, and held on. The frog started jumping around the park, and everybody was amazed. The frog was able to jump over trees. Then the frog went over to the street. But it didn’t need to cross the road. It could just jump to the other side, over the cars that were driving on the road.
Then the frog turned around and jumped back over the road to the park. In the park, there was a pond of water. And there was a little boy wearing a hat, walking near the pond. All of a sudden, the wind blew the boy’s hat off his head. The hat flew over and landed in the middle of the pond.
But the boy couldn’t reach it. Then Lulu asked the frog if they could jump into the pond to get the boy’s hat. The frog said yes, and they jumped into the middle of the pond. The frog was big enough that the top of it was out of the water. Lulu leaned over and picked up the hat floating in the water. Then the frog jumped back onto the grass.
Lulu gave the hat back to the boy, and he thanked Lulu. Then Lulu told the frog she was done and ready for it to shrink down to normal size again. The frog jumped over to the bench where Sally was sitting. Lulu got off the frog, and helped Sally put the shrinking blanket on the frog. They watched as the blanket over the frog started moving around. And the giant frog began to shrink down and it was a small frog again, and it jumped away.
Lulu was tired from all that activity and was ready to go home. She said goodbye to Sally, and walked home. When Lulu arrived at home, she drew a picture of herself sitting on the giant frog. Then she was ready to take a nap. And she laid down, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
