Hidden under hats

One day Lulu was getting ready for her friends Sally and Jimmy to come over and have lunch together. While getting ready, Lulu decided to wear a hat today. So she went to the closet and picked out a nice hat. It was a red knit hat with a puff ball on top. 

Lulu liked how it looked on her, and then she picked out a book to read while she waited for her friends. Sally arrived first, and when she knocked on the door, Lulu answered it. Lulu smiled when she saw Sally, because Sally was also wearing a hat. 

She was wearing a brown knit hat, and it was just round on top, with no puff ball like Lulu’s hat. Sally came in and saw Lulu wearing a hat, and Sally said it was funny that they were both wearing hats today. Then Sally picked out a book to read with Lulu, while they waited for Jimmy. 

After a few minutes, Jimmy arrived and knocked on the door. Lulu answered it, and smiled again when she saw Jimmy, because today Jimmy was also wearing a hat. Jimmy had an orange knit hat, with a string that came out of the top. Jimmy came in and saw that Sally and Lulu were both also wearing hats. 

And Jimmy said that they must have all been thinking alike that morning. Then all three of them decided to play a fun guessing game with their hats. They would put things under their hats and take turns choosing a hat and seeing what was under it. 

So first they decided to write down different things they could eat for lunch. Lulu got out a piece of paper, and tore it into three pieces. On the first piece of paper she wrote down “sandwich,” on the second piece of paper she wrote down “dumplings,” and on the third piece of paper she wrote down “noodles.” 

Then Sally folded the pieces of paper, and handed them to Jimmy. He put one piece of folded paper under each hat. When he was done, the hats were ready Jimmy was the first to choose one. He chose the red hat, and lifted it up, and the paper under it said “dumplings,” so that was what Jimmy would eat for lunch.

Then it was Sally’s turn, and she chose the orange hat, and lifted it up, and the paper under it said “noodles,” so that was what Sally would eat for lunch. The last hat was the brown hat, and Lulu lifted it up, and the paper under it said “sandwich,” so that was what Lulu would eat for lunch. 

They all laughed at their silly game, and then they made their lunches. After eating their lunches, they went out to the playground at the park to play. They ran around the park, and chased each other. And they also swing on the swings and went down the slide. 

Then it was time to go back. And Lulu asked Jimmy and Sally if they wanted to exchange hats. They agreed. And Jimmy gave his orange hat to Lulu. Lulu gave her red hat to Sally. And Sally gave her brown hat to Jimmy. Then they said goodby to each other and left. 

Lulu went home and put the hat Jimmy gave her, in the closet. Then she ate dinner with her parents. After dinner Lulu read one of her books. She finished reading the book, and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. Then she laid down, closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
