Lulu and the Loose Chickens
One day Lulu and her daddy went for a walk outside. While Lulu was walking down the street she saw her friend Jimmy and his mommy. Lulu waved to Jimmy, and he waved back at her. She walked over to him and asked him where he was going. He said that he was going to the big field next to the park.
He told her that there was a farmer's market going on today. Then Lulu and her daddy joined Jimmy and his mommy, and they all went to the big field together. When they arrived, they saw that there were a lot of tables set up with different fruit and vegetables being sold.
Some the things being sold were things that could not be found in a grocery store. There was a table with square shaped apples, and they were all held in a big net. Lulu's daddy and Jimmy's mommy took a look around at some more tables of fruit and vegetables. Lulu and Jimmy saw a table that was selling fresh eggs.
The sign on that table said that the seller had chickens at home which laid eggs. And today he brought some of those chickens with him. There were some chickens in a big cage behind the table. They were on display to get people to stop by and take a look. There was also a bag of chicken food that people could take a small scoop and feed the chickens.
There was a man who was walking past the table of eggs with his dog on a leash. The dog saw the chickens and pulled the leash out of the man's hand. Then all of a sudden the dog jumped over the table of eggs. And the dog landed on the big cage of chickens. The cage was knocked over, and the door of the cage opened.
And the chickens all ran out. The man quickly grabbed his dog's leash, and pulled his dog back. Now the chickens were running all around. The egg seller tried to chase his chickens, but he couldn't catch them. Lulu and Jimmy also tried chasing the chickens, but they couldn't catch the chickens either.
Then Lulu and Jimmy had an idea. She saw an empty space between two trees near the table of eggs. Jimmy walked over to the table with square apples. He asked that seller if he could borrow the big net that was holding the square apples. The seller let him use the net. And Lulu went over to trucks that carried the tables to the farmer's market.
She found two ladders next to the trucks and brought those over to the two trees near the table of eggs. Lulu put one ladder next to one tree, and Jimmy put another ladder next to the other tree. Then Lulu took some of the chicken food, and put it on the ground in the middle between the two trees.
Next Lulu and Jimmy each held opposite sides of the big net. And Lulu climbed up the ladder next to one tree, and Jimmy climbed up the ladder next to the other tree. On the ground between them was the chicken food. They waited a few minutes, and then they saw the chickens started to gather around the chicken food.
When all the chickens were grouped together eating the chicken food, Lulu and Jimmy dropped the net down. The net landed on top of the chickens. And the egg seller was able to pick up the chickens and put them back in the cage. Lulu and Jimmy climbed back down the ladders.
Jimmy returned the net to the table with the square apples. And Lulu put the ladders back next to the trucks. The egg seller was very grateful to Lulu and Jimmy for helping to catch the chickens. And the egg seller gave Lulu and Jimmy each a carton of eggs as a gift.
A bunch of people including Lulu's daddy and Jimmy's mommy had seen Lulu and Jimmy catch the chickens with the net. And they all clapped their hands. Then it was time to go home, and Lulu said goodbye to Jimmy. When Lulu got home with her daddy, they put away the fresh eggs they had got at the farmer's market.
They would have that for breakfast the next day. Lulu's daddy also bought some of the square apples, and they would eat that at breakfast the next day. Lulu then got ready for dinner, and set the table. After eating dinner, she helped clean up. Then she read a little bit of her book, and got ready for bed. She brushed her teeth, and laid down. She closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
