Lulu and the water bottle
One day Lulu went to the park. While she was there she became thirsty. And she went home to drink some water. She realized that when she went back to the park next time, she should bring a bottle of water with her. The next day Lulu went to the park again.
This time she brought a blue water bottle with pictures of fish on it. When she became thirsty, she drank some water. Later, when she was thirsty again, she wanted to drink more water, but there was none left in the bottle. Lulu couldn’t see through the bottle.
She could only see the pictures of fish on the outside of the bottle. She didn’t know how much water was in it, and because of that she drank it too quickly. Lulu decided that next time she would bring a clear water bottle, so that she could see inside of it.
That way she would know how much water was still in the bottle. Then the day after she went to the park again, and she brought a clear water bottle. When she became thirsty, she drank some of the water, and she could see how much water was still inside the bottle.
Then she stopped drinking it to save some for later. Lulu continued playing on the swings, and the slides, and climbing around on the ramps and the steps. When Lulu was finished playing at the park, she became thirsty again, and this time she had some water left over in her water bottle, because she had saved it from earlier.
When Lulu was going back home, she walked into her apartment building and saw a potted plant inside near the elevator. The plant looked dry, and it needed some water. Lulu had a little bit of water left in her bottle, so she poured that onto the plant to give it some water.
But it was a very big plant, and there was only a little water in Lulu’s bottle. Then Lulu went upstairs and filled up her bottle of water again. Lulu asked her mommy if anybody waters the plant near the elevator, and Lulu’s mommy said that the building manager usually waters the plant, but this week he was out of town.
Then Lulu decided that she would water the plant while the building manager was gone. Every day that week Lulu filled her water bottle, and poured water onto the plant. But at first she poured too much water onto the plant. Then Lulu used a marker to draw some lines on the water bottle, from bottom to top.
Now she could measure how much water to pour out, and when to stop pouring. After a few days, the plant looked good again, because it had enough water, not too much, and not too little. When the building manager came back from his trip out of town, Lulu told him that she watered the plant while he was gone.
He thanked her, because he forgot to ask somebody to water the plant for him. Then Lulu went home and drew a picture of the plant. She was going to glue the drawing to her water bottle, but she didn’t want to block seeing how much water was in the bottle.
Instead, Lulu put the drawing on the refrigerator. Then Lulu got ready for dinner, and ate with her parents. After dinner, Lulu read one of her books. Then she got ready for bed, and brushed her teeth. Finally, Lulu laid down, and closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
