Lulu Makes Food Art

One day Lulu was helping her daddy clean up after lunch. They had eaten some salad, and there was a bag of broccoli on the kitchen counter. Lulu looked at the broccoli and thought it looked like something else. She opened the bag of broccoli and took out one small piece of broccoli. She looked at it closely and then realized that it looked like a tiny tree. Then Lulu had a funny idea.

She wanted to make a small display of things on a piece of cardboard. Lulu got some glue out and started with the piece of broccoli. She glued the broccoli to the cardboard. Now it looked like there was a small tree on the cardboard. Then Lulu got one of her blocks and drew some small squares on it.

Then she glued that block to the cardboard. The block looked like a little building, with the drawn squares made to look like windows. Then Lulu got one of her toy cars and glued that to the cardboard. And she got out a marker and drew long lines on the cardboard, in front of and behind the toy car. Now it looked like the toy car was on a road.

Then Lulu thought she wanted to show Sally what she was making, and have Sally help her. Lulu put the piece of cardboard in her backpack, and also the glue. Then she put on her shoes and went outside. She walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus. When the bus arrived, Lulu got on the bus. While riding the bus, Lulu thought she could add that to the cardboard neighborhood she was making.

Then the bus arrived near Sally's home, and Lulu got off. She went to Sally's home and knocked on the door. Sally opened the door and welcomed Lulu inside. Lulu told Sally that she was making something and wanted Sally to help. Lulu opened her backpack and took out the piece of cardboard. She told Sally that she was making a cardboard neighborhood, with glue and different things.

Sally saw that there was a piece of broccoli as a tree, a block as a building, and a toy car, on a drawn road. Then Lulu asked if Sally had a suggestion for how to make a bus on the display. Sally said there was a bag of cucumbers in the kitchen. And that a cucumber is small and long, and it matched the shape of a bus.

Lulu thought that was a great idea. They took a cucumber out of the bag and they drew on the cucumber. They drew small squares to be the shape of windows on the cracker box. Then they wondered what else to add. Lulu wanted to add some people to the cardboard neighborhood. Sally thought about what they could use to represent people.

Then Sally suggested that they use some uncooked macaroni to make small people. Lulu agreed. Lulu took out the glue. And Sally got the macaroni from the kitchen. She used two pieces of macaroni for the legs, and one piece for the body. Then another two pieces of macaroni for the arms. And finally one piece for the head.

Lulu put the glue on the ends of the macaroni pieces. And now they made a small macaroni person. Lulu glued the macaroni person to the cardboard neighborhood, near the piece of broccoli that was pretending to be a tree. Then Lulu said they should go to the park and add small rocks and leaves to the cardboard display.

Sally agreed and put on her shoes. They walked to the park nearby. When they arrived, they sat on a bench. Lulu took out the cardboard neighborhood display from her backpack. Then Lulu and Sally picked some small rocks, and glued it to the piece of cardboard.

And they picked some small leaves, and glued those to the piece of cardboard. Now it looked like the leaves were small bushes around the broccoli tree. Then Lulu and Sally wanted to play on the playground. They put the cardboard neighborhood on the bench, and went to the swings. While they were swinging, they saw some squirrels come over and jump onto the bench.

The squirrels started eating the broccoli and cucumber and macaroni pieces. Lulu and Sally ran over to the bench, and the squirrels jumped away, and climbed into a tree. Lulu and Sally looked at their cardboard display and laughed. The squirrels had eaten all the food parts that they had glued to the cardboard.

Then Lulu had an idea. She drew a squirrel in her notebook and tore that out. Then she glued that to the cardboard display. And she wrote under the drawing "squirrel town." Sally laughed and said that was funny. Then it was time to go home and Lulu said goodbye to Sally. When Lulu arrived at home she showed the squirrel town display to her daddy. Lulu's daddy asked her what happened.

And Lulu described how the squirrels had eaten the food pieces on the cardboard. Lulu's daddy said that she has to be careful to not leave any food on the bench at the park. Because squirrels will smell it and run over to try and eat it. Now Lulu knew to be more careful. Lulu helped her daddy get ready for dinner.

Lulu's daddy asked her what she wanted to eat. And Lulu said macaroni, because if the squirrels ate it, Lulu wanted to also. Lulu's daddy cooked some macaroni for dinner. After Lulu ate dinner, she read a little from her book. Then she got ready for bed and brushed her teeth. And she laid down, closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
