Lulu and the Thinking Hat

One afternoon Lulu wanted to draw in her notebook. She looked for her favorite pen. But she couldn't find it. She tried to remember where she put it after she used it last time. But she couldn't remember. Was it in her backpack? She looked in it. Nope, her pen was not in her backpack. Was it on the bookshelf? She searched over there. Nope, her pen was not on the bookshelf. Was it on the table? She checked on it. Nope, her pen was not on the table. 

Lulu went to her mommy and said that she couldn't find her favorite pen. Mommy suggested using a different pen. But Lulu still wanted to find her favorite pen. Then mommy told Lulu to wait for a moment. Mommy went to the closet and then came back. Mommy was holding a hat, and told Lulu that this was a thinking hat. 

And that if Lulu put it on, Lulu could concentrate and think carefully about where she had used her favorite pen last time. Lulu put on the hat and sat down. She started thinking about when she used her pen before. And then Lulu remembered something. She remembered that the day before she was at Jimmy's home, when they were writing together. 

Lulu jumped up and told her mommy that the thinking hat helped her remember where her favorite pen was. Lulu's mommy smiled and said she was glad. Then Lulu put her notebook in her backpack. She also put the thinking hat in her backpack. Lulu put her backpack on and got her bicycle. Then she put on her shoes and took her bicycle outside. 

Lulu bicycled to Jimmy's place and knocked on the door. Jimmy opened the door and was happy to see Lulu. He invited her inside, and offered her a glass of water. Lulu drank the water and thanked Jimmy. She told him that she was looking for her favorite pen and that she remembered using it the day before at his home. 

She said she thinks she forgot it there when she left. Jimmy wondered where her pen could be, because he didn't remember seeing it. He looked in the bedroom, but didn't see the pen in there. He looked in the kitchen, but didn't see the pen in there. He looked in the living room, but didn't see the pen in there. 

Then Lulu said she had something that could help. She opened her backpack and took out the hat. She told Jimmy that it was a thinking hat, and that it helped her remember where she saw the pen last time. She said he could use it to try helping him remember where he saw the pen. Jimmy put on the hat and sat down. 

He started thinking about where he saw the pen last time. Then he remembered something from that morning. He remembered that when he was eating breakfast, he saw his daddy writing something with the pen. Lulu was excited, and she was glad Jimmy remembered. Jimmy went and asked his daddy if he still had the pen he used in the morning. 

Jimmy's daddy said that he had used it and put it in his pants pocket. But when he checked his pocket it wasn't there anymore. Then Jimmy said his daddy could put on the thinking hat to help him remember. Jimmy's daddy put on the hat. He started thinking and then remembered something. 

After Jimmy's daddy used the pen and put it in his pocket, he got in the car to go somewhere. And he said that sometimes pens fall out of his pocket when he sits in the car. Jimmy said they should check the car. Lulu and Jimmy went to the car, and looked inside it. At first they couldn't see the pen anywhere. 

Then Jimmy looked under the seats, and he saw it there. He told Lulu and she was very excited. Jimmy picked it up and handed it to Lulu. She was so glad to get her pen back. She thanked Jimmy, and his daddy, and told them she was going to go home now. Lulu put her pen in her backpack and got on her bicycle. 

She rode her bicycle home, smiling all the way. When Lulu arrived at home, her mommy saw her smiling. Lulu told her mommy that she found the pen, and thanked her mommy for the thinking hat. Then Lulu's mommy said that it was actually just a normal hat, and that it was Lulu who was able to think and concentrate on remembering. 

Lulu said that Jimmy and his daddy were also able to think and concentrate to help her find her pen. Lulu's mommy asked her what would happen if she didn't find her pen at all. Lulu thought about it and said if that happened it would be okay, because then she could use another pen. 

Lulu's mommy was proud of her and gave her a hug. Then Lulu helped her mommy get ready for dinner. After dinner, Lulu used her favorite pen to draw in her notebook. Then she got ready for bed and brushed her teeth. Finally, Lulu laid down, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
