Lulu Gets A Flu Shot

One day Lulu woke up and she remembered what was going to happen today. She and her mommy were going to go to the doctor’s office to get a flu shot. It had been one year since they got a flu shot last time. And last year Lulu was brave when her arm was poked with the sharp needle. Today she was ready.

Lulu got up and got ready. She put on her clothes and sat down for breakfast. Her mommy made some oatmeal. She also cut up some pieces of apple and put that in the oatmeal. Lulu wanted to bring her toy unicorn with her to the doctor’s office. And she put that in her backpack.

Then Lulu and her mommy put on their shoes and went outside. Lulu’s mommy drove them to the doctor’s office. Then they had to sit in the waiting room and wait their turn. While they were waiting, there was a young boy and his daddy also waiting at the doctor’s office. Lulu said hello to the boy and asked him why he was there today.

The boy was nervous and quietly said that he was there to have a flu shot. But he was scared because he thought that it would be painful. Lulu told the boy that it was okay to be scared. But that he didn’t have to worry about anything because it would all be over in a moment, and that the doctor was very nice.

Then the nurse called the next patient, and it was the young boy. He and his father got up and walked from the waiting room to see the doctor. Lulu took out her book and started reading. Then all of a sudden Lulu heard the boy shout and he ran past her and out into the hallway.

The boy’s daddy came out from the doctor’s room in a hurry, looking for the boy. Lulu asked the boy’s daddy what happened, and he said that when the boy saw the injection needle, he became scared and ran away. Lulu and her mommy said they could help look for the boy. Lulu stepped out into the hallway and saw that there were some stairs.

She saw the door to the stairs moving, and she thought that the boy had run to the stairs. She walked up to the next floor, and saw that there was a dentist’s office upstairs. Lulu wondered if the boy was hiding somewhere here. She walked around and looked in all the dentist rooms, but the boy wasn’t there. Then she saw a big plant in the dentist’s waiting room, and the plant was moving.

She went closer to the plant and then she could see that the boy was hiding behind it. Lulu asked the boy why he was hiding, and he said that he didn’t want the needle to hurt his arm. Lulu said she knew a way to help him, and she asked him to come out from behind the plant.

The boy stepped out and they went back downstairs to the doctor’s office. Everybody was glad that Lulu had found the boy. Then Lulu opened her backpack and took out her toy unicorn. She told the boy that if he held the toy unicorn while he was getting the flu shot, it would feel less painful.

She handed the toy unicorn to the boy and he took it. Then the boy and his daddy stepped into the doctor’s room again. The boy closed his eyes and held the toy unicorn close to his chest very tightly. And the doctor very carefully put the needle in the boy’s arm and gave the boy a flu shot. Then the doctor said it was finished.

The boy opened his eyes and blinked. That didn’t hurt as much as he thought it would. He walked out to the waiting room, and gave the toy unicorn back to Lulu. He thanked Lulu then he and his daddy left. Now it was Lulu’s turn, and she went with her mommy to the doctor’s room. The doctor gave her a flu shot and told her she was very nice to help the boy to be brave. Lulu was glad that she brought the toy unicorn to help the boy feel brave.

Then Lulu and her mommy were finished and ready to leave. While they were driving home, there was a lot of traffic, and it was taking a long time to drive. Lulu was sitting in the car, and looking out the window, watching the clouds. While she was looking at the clouds, she closed her eyes, and she went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
