Lulu and the Ants

One day Lulu was going to have a picnic with Sally. Lulu was bringing a sandwich, some grapes, and some water. Lulu went to Sally's home to meet her there. Sally was still packing her food. She was also bringing a sandwich, some strawberries, and some water. They also packed a big blanket to sit on.

Then Lulu and Sally went to the playground together. They put the big blanket on the grass near the playground and sat on it. They opened their backpacks and took out their packed food. The sandwiches were in ziplock bags, and the fruit was in a container with a lid. They opened the fruit containers and ate some strawberries and some grapes. Then they wanted to play on the playground, and they left the food on the blanket.

Lulu and Sally went to the swings, and there was only one swing empty, because other kids were on the other swings. Lulu let Sally sit on the empty swing first and Lulu helped push Sally very high. Then Sally got off and let Lulu sit on the swing, and Sally pushed Lulu very high on the swing.

After a while another swing was empty when one of the other kids left. Then Sally and Lulu both sat on swings next to each other. They started swinging higher and higher, kicking their legs back and forth. After swinging for some time, Lulu and Sally were thirsty and ready to eat more of their picnic food.

They walked back to their big blanket and sat down. They each had a drink of water. Lulu picked up the container of grapes, but when she looked at it, there were some ants on the grapes. Lulu had forgotten to put the lid on the container of grapes. And then Sally picked up the container of strawberries, but when she looked at it, there were also some ants on the strawberries. Sally had also forgotten to put the lid on the container of strawberries.

There were also ants all over the big blanket. The ants had come from the ground, smelling the fruit, and walked onto the blanket to get into the containers of grapes and strawberries. Lulu and Sally wanted to get the ants off the blanket. Then Lulu had an idea. She and Sally could put the rest of the grapes and strawberries on the ground off the blanket. And the ants on the blanket would smell the grapes and strawberries, and walk off the blanket and towards the fruit.

Lulu and Sally started putting the pieces of grapes and strawberries in a line, one by one, on the ground, until the line of fruit reached a tree. Then the girls went to go play on the playground some more. After a while Lulu and Sally came back to the blanket and saw that all the ants were gone from the blanket.

Now all the ants were walking on the ground to each piece of fruit, until reaching the tree. Sally and Lulu were glad that their plan worked. They finished eating their sandwiches, which were still closed in the ziplock bags, and the ants couldn't get in. Then they packed up the blanket and said goodbye to each other.

Lulu went home and she drew a picture of ants on the picnic blanket. She also wrote down "always remember to close the lid on containers of food." Then Lulu was ready for a nap, and she laid down and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
