The Book of Cards
Today Lulu decided that she would do something nice for the neighbors in her apartment building. She wanted everybody to feel good about living there. That's why she made a nice card for all her neighbors. Lulu got out some thick paper, and some markers. On a sheet of paper she drew a picture of the building.
Then she wrote the words "it's nice to be your neighbor" at the top of the paper. She also drew a picture of herself standing in front of the building. Lulu made lots of these cards in the same way. After a while she had made a big pile and she was ready to give them out. She collected her stack of cards, and she went to each floor in the building.
Then she slid each card under the door of every apartment in her building. It took her a long time, as she walked up and down the hallways. But finally Lulu was finished. Then she had another idea. Lulu also wanted to collect drawings from her neighbors. She needed to make a big poster and put it on the wall near the mailboxes.
She got many sheets of thick paper, and she taped them all together, until it was a giant rectangle. And on each sheet of paper she wrote down the door number of every apartment in her building. Then at the top of the poster she wrote the words, "please draw on the back of the card you received, and put it on this poster."
Then after a few days the poster was full of drawings. And each square had a card on it with a drawing made by people in different apartments. Lulu took down the poster and brought it home. When she got home she took all the drawings off the poster. Then she put all the cards in a pile. Lulu wanted to make a little book of drawings from the cards.
She cut a little hole at the top and bottom of the left side on every card. Then Lulu took some string and put it through the holes in the cards. She tied a knot in the pieces of string. Now the string was holding all the cards together and she could turn the pages just like a book. Now she was ready for the last part.
Lulu wanted to give the book of drawings as a gift to the building door attendant, who sits at a desk by the front entrance. The door attendant helps people living in the building open the front entrance when their hands are full of carrying things.
Lulu got some wrapping paper, and she wrapped up the card book that she made. Then she put a ribbon around it and tied a knot. Now it was ready. Lulu took the gift downstairs, and walked to the front entrance. She gave the door attendant the gift and said that it was from everybody in the building.
The door attendant unwrapped the package and saw the book of drawings Lulu had made. But Lulu said that the drawings were drawn by all the people living in the building. The door attendant was very grateful and said thank you to Lulu. She smiled and went back upstairs. Lulu's parents said that she did a very nice thing.
Then it was time for dinner and Lulu ate with her parents. After dinner Lulu got ready for bed, and she brushed her teeth. Then she laid down and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
