Lulu and the umbrella
One day Lulu went to the park. And when she got there it was very sunny. Lulu saw her friend Sally and they played together on the playground. Then they stopped to have some snacks. Lulu didn’t bring any snacks today, but Sally had enough to share with Lulu.
Sally brought some oranges, some apples, and some bananas. Then after they ate the snacks, Sally was very tired and hot, and needed to rest. Lulu had an idea that would help Sally. Lulu ran home and got an umbrella, and brought it back to the park. It was a very big and strong umbrella.
Lulu opened the umbrella and put it behind Sally to make some shade. Sally was very glad to have the shade from the umbrella. After Sally rested for a little while, some clouds in the sky moved in front of the sun, and it wasn’t hot and sunny anymore. Then Sally had an idea of something fun to do with Lulu’s umbrella.
Sally ran home and got some string, and came back to the park where Lulu was waiting. Sally said they could make a swing out of the umbrella and a tree. Because it was a big and strong umbrella, Lulu was willing to try. Sally climbed up the tree and tied one end of the string on a branch.
Then Sally came down and tied the other end of the string to the umbrella handle. Then they opened the umbrella upside down. Now it looked like a big bowl, tied to the string and hanging from a branch in the tree. Sally sat in the umbrella and asked Lulu to swing her in it. Lulu held the upside down umbrella, and pulled it all the way back, then let go and it swung forward very far.
Then Sally was swinging back and forth, and told Lulu to jump in with her. Lulu jumped into the upside down umbrella. But then as the umbrella was swinging forward, the string broke. At the same time there was a giant wind that blew Lulu and Sally in the upside down umbrella, towards the river in front of them.
They landed in the river, and the big strong upside down umbrella acted like a boat. Lulu and Sally floated down the river, until the handle of the umbrella caught on a low bridge. Lulu climbed up the umbrella handle, and then Sally climbed up the umbrella handle. Then Lulu picked up the umbrella and closed it. They didn’t expect to get blown into the river.
They decided to take the bus back, so they waited at a bus stop nearby. While they waited, the clouds moved and it became sunny again. Lulu and Sally opened the umbrella and held it above them to stand in the shade. When the bus came, they got on it, and they rode it back home, slowly slowly slowly.
