Pretending to be animals
One day Lulu was reading a book about different animals, and she thought it would be fun to pretend to be those animals. The first animal she read about was a kangaroo. Kangaroos live in Australia, and they hop around on two feet. And instead of walking, Lulu hopped around on her feet, pretending to be a kangaroo.
Later that day, Lulu went to the swimming pool. At the swimming pool, Lulu pretended to be a penguin, and she jumped into the swimming pool the way a penguin jumps into water, with two feet together, and Lulu kept her arms on her sides, the way a penguin’s wings are on its sides.
Penguins are birds that cannot fly, but they can swim. And they live near the south pole of the planet. While she was swimming in the swimming pool, Lulu then pretended that she was a fish, and that all the other people were also lots of fish. And then Lulu swam around the swimming pool, pretending that she was a fish. She tried to hold her breath as long as she could underwater.
When Lulu got out of the swimming pool, she pretended that she was an elephant. And she used only one arm to hold her towel, pretending that her arm was an elephant trunk. And she dried herself with only that one arm holding the towel. Then Lulu pretended that she was a cat, and she walked very slowly as she was getting out of the swimming pool.
Lulu went back to the car with her mommy, and they drove home. While she was in the car, Lulu pretended to be a squirrel, and she ate some snacks and held those snacks in her cheeks. Then she chewed her snacks from inside her cheeks, until she ate it all.
When Lulu got home, she pretended that she was a puppy, and she took out a belt, and put it on around her stomach, and let the loose end of the belt hang behind her back, and she pretended that it was a tail. She spun around, trying to catch the loose end of the tail. Just like the same way that puppies sometimes try and chase their own tail.
Then Lulu pretended that she was a worm, and she laid down on the ground, and tucked her arms and legs together, and she rolled around trying to move forward the way a worm moves. But that was very difficult. Then Lulu got tired and it was time to get ready for dinner.
She thought about what sort of animal she could be at dinner. She decided that she would just be a human at dinner, and not pretend to be an animal. When Lulu’s mommy asked her why she was moving around in different ways that day, Lulu explained that she was pretending to be different animals.
Lulu’s mommy asked her which animal was easiest to pretend to be. Lulu thought about it, and said that it was easiest to pretend to be an elephant, because she could use her arm as a trunk, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to dry herself.
Then Lulu’s mommy said that Lulu can pretend to be an elephant to help put away the dishes, using only one hand. And that’s what Lulu did, using only one hand to pick up the dishes from the table. Then Lulu went into the bathroom and got out her toothbrush.
She put it on the counter, and using only one hand, got out the toothpaste and put some toothpaste on the toothbrush. With the same hand she picked up the toothbrush and brushed her teeth. She kept her other arm by her side the whole time. It was tricky only using one hand.
When Lulu was finished brushing her teeth, she walked to the bed, and she saw her stuffed zebra on the bed. She decided she would pretend to be a sleeping zebra just like her stuffed toy, and she laid down and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
