Lulu goes to the dentist
One day Lulu woke up and she could feel a pain in her mouth. She didn’t know what it was, so she told her parents what was happening. They took a look in her mouth, and they asked her if any of her teeth were loose, because sometimes new teeth in kids start growing in, and can push the old teeth out, and it can feel painful.
But when Lulu used her tongue to touch her teeth, none of them felt loose. Lulu’s daddy called the dentist’s office and made an appointment to go see the dentist that day. Lulu hadn’t been to the dentist before, and she was worried that it would be even more painful, but her daddy told her that it would be okay, and that he would be there with her.
Because Lulu’s mouth was hurting, she didn’t want to eat anything. All she had was a glass of water. Then Lulu and her daddy got in the car, and he buckled in her seatbelt, and they drove to the dentist’s office. When they got to the dentist’s office, Lulu saw that there were some other kids also there, and she wondered if they also had a toothache like she had.
While Lulu and her daddy were waiting to see the dentist, there were some coloring books and crayons on a chair near them, which was meant for people to use while waiting. So Lulu picked out a coloring book about cats. There were different drawings of cats on the pages, so Lulu chose some crayons to color them in.
The cat drawn on the first page had stripes, and so Lulu colored it orange. The cat drawn on the second page had spots, so Lulu colored it black and white, and she laughed because it reminded her of a cow. On the third page was a drawing of three kittens, so Lulu colored them red, green, and blue.
Lulu laughed because there’s no cats that have hair which is red, or green, or blue. While Lulu was coloring in the coloring book, her name was called and her daddy took her inside to see the dentist. Lulu sat back on the long chair, which was flat like a bed, and the dentist looked in her mouth with a bright light.
The dentist told Lulu’s daddy that she had a cavity in a tooth at the back of her mouth, from not brushing it properly, and that the dentist would scrape the cavity out and put a filling in it. Lulu was very brave, and sat very still while the dentist fixed her tooth.
When the dentist was finished, Lulu was glad, and her daddy was proud of her. Then the dentist reminded Lulu that she has to brush all her teeth very well, the teeth at the front of her mouth, and also the teeth at the back of her mouth.
Lulu admitted that sometimes she only brushes the front of her teeth because it’s easier. But from now on she promised that she will make sure to also brush the teeth at the back of her mouth, because she doesn’t want any more cavities. Lulu’s daddy smiled and said he was proud of her.
Then Lulu’s daddy asked the dentist if they could take the pages out of the coloring book that Lulu had colored, as a reminder to her of brushing all her teeth. The dentist said yes. So they took out the three pages which Lulu had colored and took it home with them.
When Lulu got home, her daddy put the three pages of cats she colored, on the refrigerator. And he told her that every time she sees it, she should remember to brush the teeth in the back of her mouth. Lulu smiled and thought that was a good idea. That night before bed, Lulu brushed all her teeth, front and back, slowly slowly slowly.
