Apologizing for mistakes
One day after lunch, Lulu saw that there was some ice cream left in the freezer, and she wanted to eat it. But Lulu’s mommy said not to eat that ice cream because it was being saved to share with a friend the next day.
But Lulu really wanted to eat it, so when mommy wasn’t looking, Lulu ate the ice cream. Then Lulu put the empty ice cream container back in the freezer. The next day when the friend came over for lunch. After lunch, mommy opened the freezer and took out the container of ice cream. But it was empty.
There was no ice cream in the container. “Lulu, do you know what happened to the last of the ice cream that was in here?” mommy asked. Lulu answered, “yes, I ate it yesterday after lunch.” Mommy reminded Lulu, “didn’t I tell you not to finish it because we were saving it to share with our friends today?”
Lulu replied, “you’re right, you did tell me, but I didn’t listen, and I just ate it all yesterday.” Mommy explained to Lulu, “well that was a mistake, but if you say you’re sorry and promise not to do it again then that shows you understand it was a mistake.”
Lulu answered, “yes now I know that it was a mistake, and I am sorry, and I won’t do it again.” Mommy said, “good, I’m glad you understand that. Mistakes happen, and we learn from them.” Lulu was glad that mommy was nice about it. And even though the friend couldn’t try the ice cream because it was all gone, they were happy to come over and have lunch together.
And then Lulu’s mommy decided to cut some fruit and share that together instead of sharing ice cream. She got out some oranges and apples and mangoes, and they cut those all into small fun bite-size pieces, and mixed it all together in a big bowl.
Then they enjoyed eating some mixed fruit after lunch. When they were finihsed eating the fruit, the friend left and went back home. After lunch Lulu was in charge of cleaning up, so washed all the dishes and put them away. She also swept the floor and wiped the table.
Lulu decided to write an apology to her mommy. She drew a picture of herself, and of her mommy, and drew a heart shape around it. She folded it and put it on the refrigerator with a magnet. Then Lulu was tired, and ready for a nap. She laid down and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
