Lulu and new bookmarks
One day while Lulu was reading with her mommy, she saw a bookmark in the book. She thought to herself that she could make some bookmarks for her books. Her mommy got some paper, and cut it up into five rectangles, and gave that to Lulu so that she could use a pencil to draw some bookmarks.
She took the first rectangle piece of paper and drew long lines across the long side of the paper. Then she drew short lines across the short side of the paper. When she was finished it looked like a net, and she called that bookmark The Net bookmark, because it could catch all the wonderful stories in her books.
Then she took the second piece of paper and she drew the shape of a small hand on it. She drew it again many times, and it looked like there were lots of little hands waving in the air, on that piece of paper. She called that bookmark Waving Hands, and it would wave to her from all the wonderful stories in her books.
Then she took the third piece of paper and she drew the shape of a small foot. She drew it again many times, and it looked like there were lots of little feet walking around, on that piece of paper. So she called that bookmark Funny Feet, and it would remind her of all the stories that she felt like she could walk into and be a part of.
Then she took the third piece of paper and drew the shape of a small window. She drew it again many times, and it looked like there were lots of little windows, almost like an apartment building. She called that bookmark Wonderful Window, to remind her of all the things she could see in her mind when she reads stories in her books.
Then she took the fifth piece of paper and she drew the shape of a small heart. She drew that many times, and it looked like there were lots of little hearts floating on the paper. She called that bookmark Happy Hearts, to remind her of how nice the stories in her books made her feel.
Then when she was finished drawing those five bookmarks on the five pieces of rectangle paper, mommy used some clear packing tape to tape all over the bookmarks, so that they would stay nice and not get easily torn up when taking them out of a book, or putting them into a book.
Lulu was excited to have new bookmarks that she made. She could use them to mark the place in her books where she stopped reading for the night. And after reading, she could go to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
