The Giant Newspaper Ball

One day Tiger was out for a walk and he wanted to read the newspaper. He went to a shop and bought a newspaper. Then he walked to the park and sat on a bench to read the newspaper. When he was finished reading the newspaper, he put it down next to him on the bench. He saw some kids playing soccer in the field next to the park.

Then all of a sudden the soccer ball was kicked very hard, and it rolled away. Tiger saw the soccer ball roll into the road. And a bus was driving by, and the bus drove over the soccer ball, which crushed the soccer ball. Now the soccer ball was flat. And the kids couldn't play with it anymore. They all looked sad and Tiger wondered if he could do anything to help. Then he had an idea. He took a page of the newspaper and crumpled it up into a small ball. It became the size of his hand.

Then he wrapped another page of the newspaper around it and crumpled it up. Now it was a small paper ball the size of two hands. Tiger kept crumpling up pages of newspaper around the paper ball. Soon it was the size of his head. That was around the same size as a soccer ball. Tiger threw the newspaper ball over to the kids, and said they could play with it. The kids thanked him and kicked the newspaper ball around.

Then Zebra was walking by and saw Tiger and stopped to say hello. Zebra asked Tiger what he was doing. And Tiger said that he had just finished reading his newspaper and had crumpled it into a ball for the kids to kick around. Zebra thought that was a great idea. And she wanted to see how big a paper ball they could make with more newspapers. Tiger said he wanted to find out also.

Zebra and Tiger went to the shop and bought all the newspapers there. Then they came back to the bench in the park. Together they took all the newspapers and crumpled it up into a giant ball. It was as tall as them. They wanted to see how far it would roll from the top of a hill. Together, Tiger and Zebra pushed the giant paper ball up a hill. Then at the top of the hill they pushed it and it started rolling down.

But as it rolled down the hill, it started to fall apart. And pages of newspaper were coming off the paper ball. And the paper ball was getting smaller and smaller as it was rolling down. Finally it stopped at the bottom of the hill, and the paper ball was just as small as a hand. Right then Tiger and Zebra heard some honking. The honking was coming from a truck carrying a giant container of paint.

Somebody driving a car on the road suddenly turned in front of the truck. And the truck driver had to avoid crashing into the car. The truck driver turned the truck quickly, but it crashed into a tree on the side of the road. A hole broke in the side of the giant container on the truck. And paint started spilling out of the giant container. Tiger and Zebra saw that, and Zebra said they should quickly pick up the newspaper pages and bring it over.

They grabbed all the loose newspaper pages and ran over to the paint truck. And they pushed the loose pages of newspaper into the hole of the truck. Slowly the paint stopped spilling out. The truck driver thanked Zebra and Tiger for helping. Then the truck driver made a phone call for an empty paint truck to come over.

When the empty paint truck arrived, it pumped the paint out of the broken truck into the empty truck. Then the second truck drove away. And the truck driver drove the first truck to a repair shop to get fixed. Tiger thanked Zebra for her quick thinking. And Zebra was glad that Tiger had told her about the newspaper ball. Then Tiger said it was time for him to go. He and Zebra said goodbye to each other. Tiger went home and made some dinner. After dinner, he read one of his books. Then he got ready for bed, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
