Lulu And The Baby Ducks
One day Lulu was outside on a bicycle ride. She was riding through the neighborhood. Then she decided to go see her friend Sally. She rode to Sally's place and knocked on the door. Sally was making lunch and invited Lulu to have some. Lulu thanked her and went inside. Sally was making some soup and salad. Lulu helped to cut up some lettuce, and carrots, and celery and tomatoes. And she mixed those into a salad. And Sally put two bowls of mushroom soup on the table.
Lulu and Sally enjoyed eating lunch together. And after lunch they decided to go for a walk. Lulu left her bicycle at Sally's place. As they walked together they thought they should go to the playground. On their way to the playground, they walked through the park. While they were walking through the park, they saw a mother duck with some baby ducks. And whichever way the mother duck walked, the baby ducks followed the mother duck.
Lulu and Sally watched as the mother duck was leaving the park with the baby ducks behind her. The mother duck went to the edge of the street and started to cross the road. The mother duck was halfway across the road, but the baby ducks were still on the sidewalk next to Lulu and Sally. Then a car came driving fast down the road and the mother duck quickly ran to the other side.
The baby ducks were by themselves on this side of the sidewalk. And more cars came driving down the road. After the cars drove past, the road was empty again. But Lulu and Sally couldn't see the mother duck anymore. Lulu and Sally started to walk away. The baby ducks were closer to Lulu and they started following her. Lulu and Sally saw the baby ducks walking behind Lulu.
Sally said that the baby ducks must be lost, because they didn't know where their mother was. And that's why they were following Lulu now. Lulu said they should go and try to find the mother duck. Sally said that was a good idea. Lulu and Sally waited until it was safe to cross the road. When the traffic light changed, they looked both ways and walked across the road. The baby ducks followed Lulu across the road.
When Sally and Lulu reached the other side, they couldn't see the mother duck anywhere. Now Lulu and Sally were confused. Where did the mother duck go? Lulu and Sally went to the playground to see if the mother duck was there. The ducks followed Lulu to the playground. Sally and Lulu didn't see the mother duck anywhere. Then Sally wondered if the baby ducks would stop following Lulu if she went on the slide.
Lulu said she would try, and she went up the steps of the slide. But the baby ducks also followed her up the steps of the slide. Then Lulu went down the slide, and looked back. She saw the baby ducks go down the slide one by one. And they all landed in a pile on the ground at the bottom of the slide. Sally suggested they go to the library to find a book about ducks. As they walked into the library, the baby ducks kept following Lulu.
Sally and Lulu went to the animal section, and looked for a book about ducks to help them know what to do. The book said that baby ducks follow their mother or whomever is nearby if the mother is gone. The book also said that ducks live near ponds. And Sally and Lulu thought they should go and look for the mother duck at the pond. But while they were at the library, the baby ducks started pecking at the book with their beaks. Sally and Lulu thought the baby ducks must be hungry.
Then Sally said there was leftover lettuce at her place which they could feed the baby ducks. Lulu said that was a good idea. They put the book back, and left the library. They walked over to Sally's place. Again the baby ducks followed them all the way, pecking at Lulu's shoes. At Sally's place, they fed the baby ducks some lettuce. Then Sally and Lulu walked to the park and went to the pond. And the baby ducks followed them the whole way.
When Lulu and Sally reached the pond, they saw the mother duck there. The mother duck saw the baby ducks and ran over. Now the baby ducks started following the mother duck again. Lulu and Sally were glad that they were able to find the mother duck. As Lulu stepped away, she looked to see if the baby ducks would follow her again.
But the baby ducks stayed with the mother duck. Then Lulu and Sally went back to Sally's place so that Lulu could get her bicycle. It was time for Lulu to go, and she said goodbye to Sally. Then Lulu rode her bicycle home. When she got home she told her parents that baby ducks were following her around all day.
Her parents were glad that she found the mother duck again. Lulu sat down and ate dinner with her parents. Then after dinner, she drew a picture of the baby ducks going down the slide. And she put that drawing on the refrigerator. Then she got ready for bed, and brushed her teeth. Finally, Lulu laid down and closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
