Lulu and the Pillowcase

This was a day that Lulu was exploring a new playground. She had not been there before and she was excited to see what it was like. When she got there she saw a very big slide. She had not seen a slide that big before. There was a tall set of steps on the back of the slide to climb up.

Lulu climbed up the steps. When she got halfway up, she looked down and the ground looked very far. But Lulu held on to the handle and put one foot above the other until she was at the top. Then Lulu looked down the slide and it looked very long. Lulu was wondering if it was too tall for her. But she was ready to try.

Lulu sat at the top of the slide and moved forward. Then she started to slide down, but she did not go very fast. The slide was slow. Because it was new it was not yet slippery enough. Lulu reached the bottom of the slide and had an idea.

She went home and got an empty pillowcase and brought it to the new playground. She put the pillowcase on her shoulder and climbed up the slide steps again. When she got to the top, she sat at the start of the slide. Then she took the pillowcase off her shoulder. She opened the pillowcase and put her legs into the empty pillowcase.

And she pulled the pillowcase up until she was sitting in it. She moved forward and slid down the slide very fast. At the bottom of the slide she almost flew off the end. She ended up bumping her legs on the ground. Then Lulu thought that she needed to have a softer landing. She went home and got a second empty pillowcase.

She came back to the new playground and she looked for some leaves fallen on the ground. Lulu walked around and collected as many leaves as she could find. She put a bunch of leaves in the second pillowcase. When that pillowcase was full of leaves, Lulu closed the pillowcase.

Then she brought the pillowcase over to the bottom of the slide. She looked for the spot where she bumped her legs on the ground. Then she put the second pillowcase full of leaves on that spot. She was ready to try the slide again. Lulu climbed up the tall slide.

At the top she opened the first pillowcase and put her legs in it, until she was sitting in the pillowcase. Then she moved forward and again she slid down the slide very fast. At the bottom of the slide she landed on the second pillowcase full of leaves. It was a soft landing and Lulu laughed.

She thought she was very smart to think of putting leaves in a pillowcase to have a soft landing from the fast slide. Now Lulu was tired and ready to go home. Lulu went home and drew a picture of herself sitting in a pillowcase. She also drew another pillowcase and drew some leaves all around it.

Then it was time for dinner and Lulu put her drawing on the refrigerator. After dinner Lulu brushed her teeth and got ready for bed. Then she laid down, closed her eyes, and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
