Baskets and Kites
One day when Lulu was going to the park. She was wearing a hat, but it was very windy. While she was walking, the wind was very strong, and it blew her hat off her head. Lulu tried to grab it, but she wasn’t fast enough. She saw her hat get carried up by the wind. It went very far away in the sky until she couldn’t see it anymore.
Lulu kept walking to the park. When she got there, she saw some people in a big field. The people were flying kites, because it was so windy. Many of the kites were designed to look like different things. Some looked like butterflies, some looked like birds, and some just had lots of colors.
Then Lulu had an idea, but she would need help from her friend Sally. Lulu went to Sally’s home and told her the idea. Lulu wanted to use a giant kite, and tie a basket to it. Then Sally could fly Lulu up in the air. Lulu and Sally went to the store, and got the biggest kite that was there. It was bigger than both of them.
Then they also got a very big basket, large enough for Lulu to sit inside it. Lulu and Sally tied the basket under the giant kite. Then Lulu sat in the basket and waited for the kite to fly in the wind. But Sally needed to pull the string on the kite, and Lulu was too heavy for Sally to pull.
Then they put some wheels under the basket to make it easier to pull. Now Sally could pull the string on the kite, and run across the field. As Sally started running and pulling the string, the strong wind started to catch the giant kite. The basket with Lulu sitting in it was rolling down the field and started to go up in the air, as the kite pulled it up.
Then the wind became stronger and it pulled the kite high up in the air. And the basket with Lulu hanging in it was right below the kite. Sally held on to the kite string, and watched as Lulu went higher and higher in the sky. Lulu looked at Sally and pointed down the street, for Sally to walk that way. Sally started walking, with the kite string in her hands.
The giant kite holding Lulu in the basket started flying above the streets. Then Lulu saw her hat on the roof of a building. The wind must have blown it all the way up there. Lulu pointed at the building, and Sally walked towards it. When Lulu got close enough, she grabbed her hat and put it in her pocket. Then Lulu looked at Sally and pointed back to the field, for Sally to walk that way.
Sally held on to the kite string, and walked back to the field. Then Lulu pointed down to the ground. Sally started pulling the kite string towards her so that she could bring Lulu down. But the wind was too strong. There were some people nearby, and Sally asked them to help her pull the kite down. The people came over and together they all pulled the string. And the giant kite with the basket Lulu was sitting in, was brought down to the ground.
When the basket was on the ground, Lulu jumped out. She pulled her hat out of her pocket and showed it to Sally and the people who helped. They all clapped their hands, happy that Lulu got her hat back. Then somebody asked if they could use the giant kite and basket. Lulu told them they could have it because she didn’t need it anymore. Then Lulu it was time for Lulu to go home.
She thanked Sally and said goodbye. Then Lulu left. When Lulu got home, she got ready for dinner. After she finished eating dinner, Lulu took out her notebook. She drew a picture of herself flying in the sky, sitting in a basket under a kite. Then Lulu got ready for bed. She brushed her teeth, and then laid down. Lulu closed her eyes and went to sleep, slowly slowly slowly.
